Position Title: Communications, Events and Digital Media Intern
Supervised By: Kerri Johnson, Managing Director, Balsom
Purpose of Position: To assist the Balsom team with communications, digital media, administration and event support
Time Commitment: 10-35 hours per week with the opportunity for additional hours during event execution
Salary: $15/hour
The communications intern will assist Team Balsom members by conducting research, providing support on communications products including writing and editing, assisting with event logistics including taking minutes at meetings, tracking project deliverables and working with vendors across the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo region. Our ideal candidates are energetic, creative youth who love to create stories and utilize social media. We’re looking for hard workers that are detail-oriented and thrive in high-pressure environments. While assisting with a wide range of projects, including Your McMurray Magazine and YMM Parent Magazine, you’ll gain hands-on experience and training across the communications, marketing and event execution spectrum, while also gaining valuable experience working with a local small business. Access to a personal computer or laptop and vehicle will be considered an asset.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create unique social media content for Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram etc for different clients and to promote the Balsom corporate brand.

Assist with the development of critical paths and communications strategies for different clients, events and projects.

Manage action items and responsibilities for projects and clients across the organization using the project management tool click-up.

Attend project meetings, take minutes, track action items and prepare summaries for staff and clients.

Assist with event execution including on-site support for set-up, tear-down, and other logistical support as required.

Assist with the preparation of communications products including drafting E-blasts, press releases, and save the dates.

Assist with general office administration as necessary including organizing the Team’s primary document storage on Google Drive

Attend staff meetings and other meetings as necessary and actively participate in brainstorming and problem-solving.

Committed to delivering the best communication and marketing strategies along with must-attend events to clients across the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Region.

Passion for effective communications and storytelling.

Self-motivated, detail-oriented with superior written, verbal and organizational skills.

Excellent computer skills and knowledge of social media platforms.

The ability to work independently and with others – especially volunteers, clients and vendors.

Dependable, flexible and trustworthy with the ability to work well under pressure and with deadlines.

Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle would be considered an asset.
